The Friends
Following the discovery of the Ship in 2002, and the public SOS, Save Our Ship campaign to save her, the Friends of the Newport Ship was formally established. Charitable status, with a formal Constitution was achieved in 2005. The charity is managed by a Board of Trustees.
The central mission of the Friends is:
to promote and support the conservation of the Newport Medieval Ship together with all artefacts, and when fully conserved their effective public display, and if practical, with other maritime relics from the Severn Estuary.
to facilitate research into the Ship, the possible methods of display and conservation of the vessel and the dissemination of the results of this research to the wider world.
to promote greater awareness of the Newport Medieval Ship and to foster understanding and appreciation of Newport’s maritime heritage.
